Bert Lott has been teaching at Vassar since 1997. He received his B.A. from Washington University in St. Louis, and his Ph.D from the University of Pennsylvania.

Bert Lott , an ancient historian, has special interests in the Augustan Age of Rome, urbanism, and most recently the interpretation of ancient documentary evidence through the theoretical lenses of Media Studies. His recent monograph, The Neighborhoods of Augustan Rome (Cambridge 2004), addresses the role of urban neighborhood communities in the creation of Augustan governance and ideology. Bert teaches historical and cultural/media studies as well as Latin and Greek.
